About Dez

Hi, I'm Dez.

I'm a husband, a father of two, and a lifelong student of one question: how do I become the person God actually created me to be?

I've been married for over twenty years to my best friend—an amazing woman who, through nearly every conversation we have, uncovers some new corner of who I am. A lot of what I've found there is unconventional. Lately I've made peace with the word for it: eccentric. I've stopped treating that as a flaw and started treating it as a clue.

Being a dad sharpened all of this. I watch my two kids ask for a new toy without a flicker of hesitation—freely, fully expecting a yes—and they're well into their tween years, old enough that I'd have expected the flinch to have set in by now. It hasn't. They still ask like the answer might just be good. And it quietly undoes me, because somewhere along the way I traded that away. I learned to brace, to expect less, to want quietly so there'd be less to lose. I did it without noticing. This site is partly my attempt to get it back—and my kids, it turns out, are the ones showing me how.

Why imagination? Because I've come to believe imagination is a gift God gave us as children, and that we can rekindle it—not by pretending, but by letting the truth of His word paint the real picture of how life is meant to be, instead of just letting life happen to us.

And why might any of this matter to you?

If you're someone trying to grow—in your faith, your marriage, your role as a parent, your sense of calling—and you suspect there's more you were made for, you're the person I'm writing for. I don't have it figured out. But I'm a few steps down the road, curious as ever, and I'd rather walk it alongside people than alone.
